Euchre

It was a beautiful spring evening. Much to my happiness (usually the phrase is "much to my dismay"... What do you say when it's a positive thing?), the weather managed to reach a frigid 70 degrees, which was much better than the extremely frigid 50 degrees of the earlier morning and previous day. It's ridiculous how freezing 70 degrees feels to my body after spending an extended amount of time in the deserts of Kenya... Anyway, I digress. I spent an amazing evening chatting with my dear friend at a local Panera Bread. Jody and I had some great conversations and continued the catching up on our lives (six months out of the country has a way of making one miss what's going on in their friends' lives). We left when the restaurant closed at 9pm (it was still light out! I'm still not used to that - it's dark by 7:30 in Africa) and returned home.
I knew that Jody's parents were avid Euchre players, and I was feeling rather game-deprived, so I suggested a game. Much to my happiness (there we go again), they agreed and Jody and I took on the formidable team of her parents. After quite a few rounds Jody and I were at 2 points... and her parents were at 9. I had given up any hope of salvaging this game, but at least we could make life difficult for them. Jody and I started taking more risks and gambles... We had quite a few close calls. I think we also Euchred them twice. To make a long story short, we ended up winning the game - 10 to 9. It was quite the impressive recovery, if I may say so myself! It was one of my more impressive Euchre victories and I think I'm still on a high - an hour later.
I'm such a game junkie. So, I felt like I must share the news of our brilliant victory with the world.
Have a wonderful evening (or morning or afternoon depending on when you read this) and I will write again soon.
Until then... Go win a card game.
